Smoke-Free Multi-Unit Housing in Unincorporated Alameda County

Thursday, April 29, 2021 (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM) (PDT)

Description

Alameda County might be considering a new ordinance in the upcoming months that would prohibit all types of smoking in multi-unit housing in the unincorporated area (Ashland, Cherryland, Castro Valley, San Lorenzo, Fairview, Hayward Acres, and Sunol). Join us on April 29 as Elsa Casanova, Lead Strategist with La Familia, discusses this new possibility. This presentation will provide an overview of the possible ordinance with time for questions and answers, and will also solicit your feedback on elements of the policy.

Who should attend: Housing providers with properties in the unincorporated area of Alameda County, including the communities of Ashland, Cherryland, Castro Valley, San Lorenzo, Fairview, Hayward Acres, and Sunol.

About our Speaker: Elsa Casanova (pronouns: they/them), is the Lead Strategist for Equity Initiatives at La Familia. They have worked as a coalition coordinator and community organizer in the unincorporated area of Alameda County for over 5 years. During this time, Elsa has supported various efforts led by community members to improve the quality of life for residents of the area. They now focus on working with a team and the community to advocate for policies that reduce the harmful impact of commercialized tobacco and other substances in low-income communities and communities of color.
